Is there such thing as concert etiquette?
I know there are things such as RSVPing to an event as soon as possible. And not flaking out on dinner functions. But are there rules of propriety at concerts?
It’s a proverbial question that I thought about while falling in love with Jason Mraz at the Greek Theater a few weeks ago in Los Angeles. For those of you that don’t know the Greek is an outdoor venue that boasts some kick ass garlic fries. Yum!
Well anyways, the Greek also serves wine by the glass or bottle.
My pal and I grab a bottle of wine and finally get situated in our seats. All of a sudden we hear an, “Excuse us”.
Two late concertgoers without giving us time to gather our beings and belongings then proceed to ram themselves through our aisle and KNOCK OVER OUR WINE!….
Why I wanted to register to grape stomp their…
I don’t mean to cry over spilt wine but isn’t offering to buy common courtesy? If I had knocked over someone’s bottle I would offer to buy a glass at least. To make matters worse our bottle was knocked down before the concert had even started.
The row in front of us was ”mist~ified”, when spilled, red wine splatters and stains… (However, soda water does a good job of lifting new red wine stains. My friend also says Oxyclean does a good job lifting red wine stains.)
The next faux pas happened as I was trying to videotape what looked like a beige ant (that is Jason Mraz from our nosebleed seats) the girls behind us would not SHUT UP. So I ended up recording a little beige ant on stage with background accompaniment about some girl’s boyfriend and his skid marks. Ugh so annoying… Please, try whispering into your friend’s ear, especially if; no one else around you is talking, or the person in front of you is filming.
This next incident was my bad! It began to drizzle during the concert so I busted out my huge umbrella. Apparently, the rows behind us could not see over my umbrella. After looking back at the angry faces I quickly had to dismantle my umbrella. If there is any chance of rain at an outdoor venue, take an umbrella with a shallow head. Note: a shallow airhead will not help stay dry during a rain storm.
The Golden Rule is, do unto others as you want them to do unto you. Be considerate please!
